The Mindset Shift Driving Americans To Lose Weight
The Mayo Clinic has conducted a diet study that shows a shift in the motivation for weight loss in Americans, with 83% surveyed wanting to lose weight for their health rather than appearance.
The study found that being intrinsically motivated, rather than motivated by pleasing others or meeting societal expectations, is key to successful weight loss. Women were found to be more motivated than men, and the pandemic has brought about changes in the way people exercise, with virtual workouts and home gym equipment making it easier to squeeze in exercise. The focus is now on making sustainable, foundational changes for long-term health improvement.
The study suggests that if people feel healthier inside, they are more likely to sustain weight loss.
