More on Creating a Powerful Vision To Lose Weight (even if you believe it’ll never work)
Most of the time our minds are on autopilot thinking whatever they want.
It’s something you must become aware of…
If you ever want to take control or your weight, your life!
In the last episode we looked at why having a powerful vision to lose weight is absolutely necessary for success. And that you must have a strong purpose and unwavering faith to reinforce your vision.
But there’s more you need to learn if you’re going to be successful.
1 – We must confront our habits
What we’re up against when we’re trying our best to reduce weight are habits. Not just any old habit though. These habits are connected to the very core of our existence—our ability to find enough food for our survival. I’m sure you’ll agree, this has gone completely haywire, right?
Our brains are totally hooked on the rewards gained from eating. The trouble is, it’s the fat-building foods that are most craved and produce the most pleasure. Wouldn’t it be great if a fresh salad gave us the same rewards? Well, with enough persistence, it can. After all, the brain actually does want what’s best for us. It just needs some serious re-programming.
You need to keep in mind that it’s the identity of who you need to be to lose weight rather than just focusing on the results you want to achieve. For example, we want to lose 50 pounds so we can finally be healthy and live a better life. But, who must you be to achieve that? You must be someone who eats healthy and always eats what’s best for you, right? Start with who first.
James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits says, one, decide on the type of person you want to be and two, prove it to yourself with small wins.
These small wins will result in achieving what you desire over time. Try it for yourself.
James also gave an example of a friend of his who wanted to lose 100 pounds. She assumed the identity of a healthy person and would ask herself regularly throughout the day “What would a healthy person do?” For example, “would a healthy person walk or take a cab?” “Would a healthy person order a burrito or a salad?” Did it work? Yes! She successfully lost the 100 pounds this way.
It’s worth getting the book Atomic Habits. It’s full of helpful advice that works. It’s one of the most useful books I’ve read.
2 – Get control of your thoughts now
Thoughts are energy that can shape our lives and our reality. This is a double-edged sword. Positive thoughts create positive outcomes, negative thoughts create negative outcomes. So, obviously the best place to start, when wanting to change our lives, is with our thoughts. If you don’t believe it, you’ll never achieve it.
Our minds are continuously sending and receiving thoughts, but most of the time, we’re not aware of it. That’s something we’re going to change. Start right now to practice being aware of what you’re thinking at any given moment. Catch yourself thinking. Ask yourself, what am I thinking? Is the thought productive or a limiting belief. Don’t judge yourself, just observe. Try to focus on having productive thoughts.

3 – Changing your thoughts from negative to positive
Negative thoughts or limiting beliefs can really create havoc when you decide to change any aspect of your life. Every time you want to make a meaningful change, you’ll be swamped by these negative thoughts until you shift back to the way the brain thinks you must be. The brain isn’t your enemy. It’s doing what it’s been trained to do. Whatever that might be.
This is why you MUST become aware of what your thoughts are doing, during the time you’re awake. Only then can you do something about them. Make a conscious effort to become aware. It’s your mind after all, right?
Try this exercise:
Hold your vision or one of your goals in your mind. Then just observe what ideas come up. You might have to do this for a few minutes before you’re aware of some negative thought. Write down the negative thoughts that come up. Things like “I’m useless”, “I can never get what I want”, “I’ll always be fat” etc. Also be aware of emotions and feelings when you’re doing this. Sometimes a craving might appear. Try to find the idea behind it.
You can even write down negative ideas you think should be on your list. Just list them all down. Add to the list at any time you become aware of one during the day.
Then try putting all your negative thoughts or limiting beliefs into the positive. Don’t do this… If your negative thought was “I’m useless” don’t convert it to “I’m not useless” it still has some negativity in it. Instead, turn it into “I’m a very useful person.” “I can never get what I want” becomes “I can always get anything I want.” Do you see how formulating it like this is much better?
So let’s say during the day you become aware of the negative thought “I’ll never be able to reduce my weight.” Label it as a negative thought in your mind or out loud. “That’s a negative thought. It’s not how I truly feel.” Then, turn it into a positive or think of something positive to replace it. Like, “I’m working on reducing my weight and I will succeed.”
Make this a habit and success is yours!

4 – Here’s some useful tips
Never judge yourself harshly for your negative thoughts. Be kind to yourself.
When you notice a negative thought, you can label it. Say to yourself, “This is a negative thought, it’s not how I truly think.”
Acknowledge any small wins you have. They really are a cause to celebrate. Many small wins add up to a big result.
Try to keep your focus mostly on what you want to be rather than just the results. Be who you need to be to achieve the results you want.
Practice gratitude every day. Be grateful for anything and everything in your life. I’m also grateful for setbacks or problems in my life when they occur because of the lessons I learn from them. Try that, it’s magical. Your problems won’t seem so impossible if you’re grateful for them.
Treat yourself and others with respect at all times. Don’t get into useless arguments that have no worthy results. Who cares whose right?
Keep working on your vision, your purpose and cultivating your faith. Keep turning your negative thoughts into positive ones and you’ll really start to change your situation. Come and visit my site and let me know how it’s going.
